15th - 19th November

We have had a busy week in 1A!

On Monday afternoon we went a walk up to Muddisdale. We took pictures of the things we could see around Kirkwall from there for our topic. It was hard work walking all that way so we had a few well deserved rests on the way!

As it was Children in Need this week, we made Pudsy's yummy Strawberry Fairy Cakes. We all enjoyed making them and they relly were worth the effort as they were delicious!

We found out more about Sally the sea turtle from Trinidad. We used paper plates to make our own turtles. They looked really good.
On Friday we too part in Children in Need. We worked with the other Primary 1 classes to make Pudsy and Blush using coppers and 5p coins. It was great fun!

Harvest

In 1A , we found out all about harvest after listening to the story 'The Little Red Hen'.

We made scarecrows that help to scare away birds from eating seeds planted in the fields.

We had great fun making our own bread! It was quite tough to stir the mixture. We sometimes had to use two arms to do it!

We all liked the texture of the dough and made a good job of kneading it. It was worth the effort though as it tasted really good when it was made.

On the last day of term we attended the harvest service. We liked wearing our harvest headbands we had made.

Swimming

We have been enjoying our weekly swimming sessions each Friday. Everyone has a great time and are learning to become more confident in the pool. The best part is having the playtime at the end with the large floats!!

Muddisdale

On a very wet Monday afternoon, dressed head to toe in waterproofs, we set off for a walk up Muddisdale.

We had a look at the map before we headed up the path. As it was so wet we weren't able to stay too long but we had a look at the trees and had a wee rest on the bench at the top of the path.

The most fun was had splashing in the puddles on the way up to Muddisdale and on the way back to school.

Hopefully next time we go it won't be so wet!

Bear Hunt

After reading the story 'We're going on a bear hunt' in class, we went on our own bear hunt in the back playground. We managed to find all 7 bears that were hidden among the trees. Well done everyone!
